Description
The bank was established in 1868; a purpose-built building came up in 1894 and located on the road from Residency to the Railway Station, now called Bank Street. According to a contemporary account, “It is a long two-storied structure, built almost entirely of granite and iron, which renders it practically fireproof. The total cost of its construction was about two lakhs of rupees.” The bank went through various name changes. In 1983 a new building for State Bank of India was built completely overshadowing the original building.
