Engraving with depictions of several balloons used in historically important ascents and the mechanics of various methods of balloon inflation and steering or propelling components. Pictured clockwise from top left: Vincent Lunardi's first British ascent from the Artillery grounds on September 14, 1784, Johann Karl Enslen's Pegasus-shaped balloon launch, Blanchard and Jeffries' cross-Channel journey on January 7, 1785, Lunardi's second ascent on May 13, 1785 and the Montgolfier brothers' balloon.
