The Old and New Towns were connected by the North Bridge (1763) and the artificially constructed earthen Mound (1781-1830). The model is situated in an open space next to the National Gallery of Scotland on the Mound and was given by the staff of Marks & Spencer to the City of Edinburgh in 1984 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the company.
