Description
Planning and building of the new city of Gueliz began under the French protectorate in 1919, under the oversight of Henri Prost. Sources describer the architectural style of the architecture dating from the time as "art deco." The wide streets and modern buildings were constructed in the 1920s and 1930s, but the area continues to transform to this day.
