dc.description | "Across the road from the cemetery is a very beautiful medersa, founded in 1341 by the Merinide sultan, Abou Hassan (whose tomb lies in the Chella necropolis) and recently restored. It has a small pillared courtyard with some strikingly delicate off-white stucco-work, and dark painted cedarwood ceilings. A guide will take you up the staircase to the terrace, off which lie the tiny cells which served as students' rooms. There is a fine view of the whole of Salé. The buildings are predominantly blue and white, and Andalucian in style (compare Chaouen in the Rif which was also built by Andalucian refugees). Opposite the medersa is the Great Mosque, which is one of the earliest in Morocco and was founded by the Almohades in the 13C but has many later additions, including the minaret."
Directly adjacent to the Great Mosque"stands out mainly for its fine decorative work. This is stylistically related to the Nasrid ornamentation of Granada, and therefore underlines the close artistic links between the two dynasties" | en_US |
