dc.description | View of the second and third tier; Among Floris’s surviving sculptures are such complex structures as the stone tabernacle (1550-1552) of the St. Leonarduskerk, Zoutleeuw [near Brussels, Belgium], and the rood screen (1573) of Tournai Cathedral. These works were instrumental in spreading the Renaissance style throughout the Netherlands. Floris’s style is based on the local south Netherlandish tradition of the early 16th century, enlivened by contact with the art of Renaissance Rome (for example the works of Andrea Sansovino) and possibly with the school of Fontainebleau (e.g. Primaticcio), especially in the artist’s later years.
