dc.description | Detail, showing the head from the side; The original marble David was installed outside the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence in 1504. It was removed to the Accademia di Belle Arti in 1873, and replaced by a marble copy. A special plaster fig leaf was made for the V&A copy of David and hung on the statue on the occasion of visits by royal ladies. It was last used in the time of Queen Mary (1867-1953).
