Close view, showing street (east) elevation; One of the grandfathers of Moscow cinemas, this was the first movie-theatre to feature sound when it opened in 1931. For a long time it was the city's major cinema, showing all the latest Soviet movies. The theatre was and is still used for prestigious film weeks and festivals. Reconstructed in 1996, it is now properly equipped with modern technology, and holds 750 people.
