During his time in the service of Francesco Sforza, Filarete wrote his Trattato di architettura (1461–4), which remained unpublished until the late 19th century. Filarete’s original manuscript has been lost, but several copies have survived. Of these it is generally agreed that the Codex Magliabechianus copy (Florence, Bib. N. Cent., MS. ii. i. 140) is the closest to Filarete’s original.en_US
