dc.description"This mosque is combined with the tomb of the founder and his family. Covered by seven tunnel vaults terminating in arches in front of the qibla wall, the sanctuary opens onto galleries on three sides; even the lateral court to the left, facing a mihrab in the enclosure wall, is enclosed by galleries. The square tomb has a pointed pyramidal tiled roof. Both mosque and tomb are embellished with finely chiselled stucco with polychrome marbles. The strongly Italianate character of much of the decoration is characteristic of Ottoman and subsequent periods in Tunisia. The slender octagonal minaret with projecting balcony is more typically Turkish." [Michell]en_US
