dc.descriptionseries of postcards; dimensions and location vary by card. In May 1968, Kawara travelled to Mexico City, where he began the two series I Got Up and I Went. I Got Up consists of two picture postcards sent by Kawara each day to friends and acquaintances. The cards bear the addresses of the sender and recipient and, likewise stamped by hand, the date and the exact time at which the artist got up that day.The postcards are always in color and always in horizontal format, they usually show general views or buildings, works of art or other sights. His interest focused on the double purpose served by such cards: as a means of orientation for travellers wishing to acquaint themselves with the location and as a popular way of communicating personal impressions in the form of visual confirmation.en_US
