photomontage, A sagging youngster would indicate that he need help in securing a better hold (a,b). The typical manner of doing this was by bending down and shuffling the child up (a-c, e-f). The way in which an infant was shifted from the back of his caretaker to her lap can be seen here in closer detail (h-j).
