Description
Mezzotint of Cornillot's balloon just before its ascent from the village of Seal in Kent on August 23 1825. A large crowd watches the preparations, and two men [likely Cornillot and Jolliffe] are having a conversation in the foreground. Horses are being loaded with inflation devices to take from the scene. Handwritten on the second page: "Ascent of Mr. P. Cornillot / Near Dover [Gab] Kent / Aug. 23 1825." From a lithograph by Gauci."
