Two mechanical drawings by Sir George Cayley published as accompaniment for his articles on aerial navigation, published in Philosophical Magazine (1817) and Mechanic's Magazine (1837). Plate 2 depicts two views of a navigable balloon (one side elevation and one rear) that depict a balloon with a boat-shaped carriage being propelled by wings attached just above the boat, and illustrate principles of "oblique wing waftage." The back view shows two propellers and an open parachute attached to the side of the boat. Plate 3 illustrates propelling force of waftage on a balloon.en_US
