Description
Engraving depicting a hair-covered man with wings and talons, the "vespertillo homo" of Richard Adams Locke's hoax article of 1835. The creature is posed with arms raised and wings outstretched, balanced on one leg on a rock at the edge of a body of water, with a volcano behind. An illustration for the Naples edition of the article series, "Delle scoperte fatte nella luna del Dottor Giovanni Herschel."
