Description
Engraving showing J.A.C. Charles descending in his balloon, waving a flag over the crowd assembled at the Prairie de Nesle, the landing site of the first hydrogen balloon flight, on December 1, 1783. Marie-Noel Robert is shown below, presenting a document to the Duke of Charters, the Duke of Fitz-James, and an "English Gentleman" to be signed by the Priests d' Hedonville and of Nesle. A caption beneath the image gives the details of the scene.
