Engraving of Jean-Pierre Francois Blanchard and Dr. John Jeffries waving the French and British flags from their balloon as they fly over the English Channel during their ascent from Dover Castle to Calais on January 7, 1785. Boats float below in the Channel. Caption is engraved beneath the image: An exact Representation of the Departure of Monsr. Blanchard and Doctr. Jefferies from Dover Castle on Jany. 7th, 1785 / with the Vessles attending them on the occasion.
