dc.description | Overall view from the front; In 1898 Rodin produced a figure without head or arms (also in the museum collection), dating from the period during which Rodin produced fragmentary works, mutilating and paring down his figures to make them more forceful and expressive. In 1899, Rodin received the commission for the Monument to Puvis de Chavannes and included the figure, which was shown in the Pavillon de l’Alma in 1900, with a left arm, this was then enlarged and reunited with its head and other arm. This version was cast by Coubertin, 1981, for the museum collections and is in the garden. Source: Musée Rodin [website]; http://www.musee-rodin.fr/en/ (accessed 8/26/2015) | en_US |
