Looking up at Classical Revival facade with Corinthian columns and pediment with sculptures; The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), founded in 1817, conducts business in several locations. The iconic facade at 11 Wall Street was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1978, as well as the main building on 18 Broad Street, between the corners of Wall Street and Exchange Place. Trowbridge & Livingston‏ were responsible for the extension to the New York Stock Exchange (1923), 8 Broad Street. Post is the architect for the 11 Wall St. facade. The sculpture on the pediment, "Integrity Protecting the Works of Man" is by John Quincy Adams Ward; the original marble was too heavy and was replaced in 1936 by figures made of copper sheeting on skeleton forms, coated with white lead.
