Description
Flooring painted with the Radha Krishna motif (Krishna inseparable from his consort Radha); While grazing cattle near the hill the Gopal Ganapati stone image was discovered by herdsmen who later installed it in a small shrine with a thatched roof. (Gopal is the infant form of Krishna and Ganapati is another name for the elephant god Ganesh). In 1966 the first Chief Minister of Goa, Dayanand Bandodkar, built the temple, and installed a silver gilded statue of Ganesh (consecrated April 24, 1966). The temple is a fusion of modern and traditional elements. Bandodkar was a wealthy mine owner and the first Chief Minister of Goa after the territory was returned to India by Portugal.
