2009Description
View of north end of Marktplatz from the top of the Rathaus (town hall) tower (200 ft.); Ratsherrentrinkstube (City Councilors' Tavern) at left end of square; Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a town in the district of Ansbach of Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), the Franconia region of Bavaria. It is well known for its well-preserved medieval old town, a destination for tourists from around the world. Rothenburg was a Free Imperial City from the late Middle Ages to 1803. It was "rediscovered" by Romantic artists in the 19th century; it also held a special significance for Nazi ideologists as a representation of an "ideal" German town.
