Right side of the Champ de Mars with Palace of Chemical Industries; Grande Roue de Paris Ferris wheel visible in distance; As part of the Paris on Stage: 1889-1914 exhibition held June 19, 2013 to February 23, 2014, a large scale panorama in the round was created and exhibited, representing the Exposition of 1900. The Exposition Universelle of 1900 was a world's fair held in Paris, France, from 15 April to 12 November 1900; it covered 530 acres in area. The fair, visited by nearly 50 million, displayed many machines, inventions, and architecture that are now nearly universally known, including the Grande Roue de Paris Ferris wheel, Russian nesting dolls, diesel engines, talking films, escalators, and the telegraphone (the first magnetic audio recorder). Art Nouveau was the prevalent style of the fair. Most of the buildings constructed for the Exposition Universelle were demolished after the conclusion of the exposition; these included foreign and colonial pavilions as well as the large exhibit halls.
