| dc.description | Gateway into the formal gardens from the Arts and Crafts building (Gates by Theodore Luderowski (b. 1911), ca. 1949, flanked by reproductions of the Furietti Centaurs); The Cranbrook Educational Community, a National Historic Landmark, was founded in the early 20th century by newspaper mogul George Gough Booth. It consists of Cranbrook Schools, Cranbrook Academy of Art, Cranbrook Art Museum, Cranbrook Institute of Science and Cranbrook House and Gardens. It takes its name from Cranbrook, England, the birthplace of the founder's father. The first structure, Cranbrook House, is an Arts and Crafts style 1908 house by Albert Kahn, most of the rest of the campus is by Eliel Saarinen. Forty acres of gardens surround the house.
