aerial view, the Medical Area Total Energy Plant (MATEP), completed in 1980, is centrally located in the 200 acre Longwood Medical Area (LMA), of Boston. MATEP serves steam, chilled water, and electricity to over 9 million square feet of space in facilities throughout the LMA by using cogeneration (or Combined heat and power) to simultaneously generate electricity and heat. This busy neighborhood is home to six major hospitals which have more than 2,000 beds and serve 85,000 inpatients and 50,000 outpatients per year., 9/1/2005 Grid pattern development around Longwood Square, noted for imported trees; design and use restrictions.
