Description
Detail, head and torso with white collar; Chagall's marriage to Bella Rosenfeld on July 15, 1915, marks a time in many ways euphoric for the painter and a central theme of inspiration. The disproportion of the central figure and the disregard for spacial depth distance the viewer and encourage an almost religious respect. Chagall had already worked in Paris, but returned to Russia in 1914 and remained until he was exiled from the country in 1923.
