Overall view of sculpture; The work shows two brave men who operate a wood raft on the St. Lawrence River. In the background bas relief panel, the artist has sculpted a picturesque landscape of Quebec in the early 19th century. There is also a three-masted sailing ship heading towards a loading dock in the city of Quebec. The date of the title places the depiction on July 3, 1808, 200 years after the founding of Quebec by Samuel de Champlain and 200 years before the 400th. (The Promenade Samuel-De Champlain was created to celebrate the 400th anniversary in 2008.) Graduate of the School of Fine Arts of Quebec, ceramist Suzanne Gravel has designed and built monuments and murals since 1966.
