Three-quarter view from short side or front with heads; The New National Gallery's terrace provides a particularly prominent space for large-scale pieces of sculpture from the 20th century. Têtes et Queue is one of the permanently installed sculptures, present since the day the museum opened. Calder made most of his monumental stabiles at Etablissements Biémont in Tours, France. Calder would create a model of his work which would be scaled up to final size, and then experienced boilermakers would complete the actual metalwork, under his supervision. Stabiles were made in carbon steel sheet metal, then painted in black or in primary colors. Source: Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page (accessed 7/8/2014)
