Detail of local stone wall and roof overhang at side of house near garage; In Palm Springs Williams helped define what is known as the Desert Modern Style of the mid-20th century. Initially he was part of a firm with his father and brother, Williams, Williams, & Williams. E. Stewart Williams acted as architect and contractor for the Seattle hotel owners William and Marjorie Edris. The house integrates well in the Colorado (Sonoran) Desert surroundings; it seems to rise up from the landscape. It has a deep roof overhang to shield the house from the sun. The Edris House remains largely unchanged, containing many of the original Williams' designed fixtures and details, and is protected from alteration since 2004 by being designated a Historic Building by the Palm Springs City Council.
