dc.descriptionDetail of support beam for balcony on north facade; The former school (closed 1974) is located on the Rechtboomssloot canal and now is a neighborhood community center (since 1977). The Reverend Jan de Liefde was a Christian reformer (of the Society for the Salvation of the People) who opened an elementary school across the canal (number 73) in a renovated warehouse in 1873. In 1929 this building, commissioned by the Society, was built across the canal at number 52 to house the school. It has three floors and an attic and is reinforced concrete clad with brick.
