Description
Detail, cupola on variant of model "Jonquille" (1425 sq. ft.); The Peter Engel Science Center was designed by Marcel Breuer and Associates of New York City. Constructed in 1965-1966 and renovated in 1996, this 125,000 square-foot facility houses field biology, psychology, astronomy, physics, mathematics, computer science, and geology. The Science Center is named after Abbot Peter Engel (1856-1921), Saint John's fourth abbot; he fostered the construction of an observatory and photographic studio which were among the first in the State of Minnesota. He also brought electricity to the campus. Source: College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University [website]; http://www.csbsju.edu/ (accessed 8/3/2014)
