Description
Detail, base (predella), small figures of saints in a shallow arcade with trefoil arches; The carved wood winged altarpiece was originally from Minden Cathedral. The coronation scene is emphasized by a circular frame. The altarpiece was altered in roughly 1425. Above the figures the shrine was filled with large architectural baldachins, which were now conceived, as already in isolated examples from the late fourteenth century, as truly three-dimensional architectural elements, rather than simply a flat crowning of arches.
