Description
Entrance at 610 Fifth Avenue, "Friendship Between America and France" by Janniot; detail, upper half, Paris at left, New York at right; Designed to represent Rockefeller’s interest in common purpose and peace, the Center created themed spaces for France, Britain and Italy as well as the International Building. Original tenants in this French-themed building which overlooks the Channel Gardens included Baccarat crystal, Mumm’s champagne, Les Parfums de Molyneux, the French consulate and the remarkable Librairie de France, a publishing house and bookstore. Founded in 1928 by Isaac Molho, David Rockefeller proposed that it be located in Rockefeller Center in 1932. The Librairie de France closed in 2009; the building is now commercial and offices without a particular theme.
