Overall view from the back, looking out towards Latham Street; Weston Field is an athletic field with an open stadium in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The stadium holds 10,000 people and opened in 1883. The Gargoyle Gate was presented to the college by the Gargoyle Society (a student honor society for seniors), dedicated June 21, 1903 (groundbreaking ceremony). It serves as an entrance gate and ticket office. The stone used in its construction was from Goodrich Hall, which had been demolished. It is in a rusticated revival style with eyebrow arches in the roof which evoke traditional thatched roofs. The architects were Frederick Squires, Williams class of 1900, and John Wynkoop. Squires and Wynkoop (firm 1904-1914) established their architectural firm in New York City, shortly after graduating from Columbia. Squires later became a petroleum engineer and received an honorary doctorate from Williams in 1953.
