Description
Model of church in galerie Davioud; looking into cutaway interior, nave and side aisle at crossing; The Galerie des Moulages (cast collection) not only contains 19th plaster casts, but also scale models of buildings done by artisans on staff at the museum. Paray-le-Monial is located in Saône-et-Loire (department), Burgundy and known for its minor Romanesque basilica (begun ca. 1120). The church was originally dedicated to the Virgin and St John the Baptist and is now dedicated to the Sacré-Coeur. The construction of the church has traditionally been linked to St. Hugh, Abbot of Cluny (1049-1109). The church is 45 m long internally, and the height of nave and choir is 22 m. It's plan is a reduced version of the east end of the great abbey church at Cluny, rebuilt from 1088 to ca. 1130 and known as Cluny III.
