Interior, cafe area inside glass atrium of Science Mall, facing base of Glasgow Tower; Philip Johnson worked with John Burgee (born 1933) from 1967 to 1991. During in the 1980s Johnson’s penchant for extreme variety of form reasserted itself followed by a group of structures variously indebted to the historicism of the post-modernist movement. The RepublicBank Center, Houston, is abundant in [Dutch] Gothic guildhall allusions. It has three segmented tower setbacks, each with a steeply pitched gabled roofline that is topped off with spires. The northeast corner of the structure houses a building within a building. On the site is the main Western Union building and when relocation of the telegraph cables proved infeasible new structure was built over the site and the existing structure was incorporated into the new building intact. Currently the 7th tallest building in Texas. Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordartonline.com/ (accessed 7/20/2012)en_US
