| dc.description | Raking view of facade from Regent Road, looking west; Formerly housed the school of that name (vacated in 1968). Part of the cost of the building was donated by King George IV. It was designed in a neoclassical Greek Doric style by Thomas Hamilton, who modeled the portico and Great Hall on the Hephaisteion of Athens. The splendidly sited school was an adaptation to modern use of the windowless Greek temple; with its careful and correct detailing, it is one of Britain’s most important Greek Revival monuments. Furniture that Hamilton designed for the school was dispersed during the last decades of the 20th century. As of February 2010, Edinburgh City Council, the building's current owners, have initiated a project to lease the building to be used as a hotel and art gallery.
