Description
Overall view from front; Pierre Marie René Ernest Waldeck-Rousseau (1846-1904) was a French Republican statesman (68th Prime Minister of France) credited with steering a moderate course but securing a decisive victory for republican stability. He was successful in negotiating workers' strikes. The monument portrays the personification of France, embracing two workers who admire the bust of Waldeck-Rousseau within an architectural framework. Marqueste was a pupil of Jouffroy and Alexander Falguière. The monument is located near the Grand Bassin Octagonal. Source: Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page (accessed 5/7/2011)
