Sculpture group "Pioneers" by Lorado Taft, detail of base; The building includes integrated sculpture depicting scenes from Louisiana and U.S. history by Ulric Ellerhusen and Lee Lawrie, (both students of Taft who frequently worked together), Adolph Alexander Weinman, Corrado Parducci and Lorado Taft, among others. Ellerhusen created "four colossal corner figures standing for 'four dominating spirits of a free and enlightened people,' " Law, Science, Art and Philosophy. He also produced a frieze Louisiana: History and Life that is divided into five parts and wraps around the building at the fifth floor level. In one section Ellerhusen used a son (Solis Seiferth, Jr.) and a daughter (Carol Dreyfous) of the building's architects as models for figures of children in his design. The last major commission that Taft was to complete in his life was two groups (Pioneers and Patriots) for the front entrance to the Louisiana State Capitol Building, dedicated in 1932.
