General view, depicting the Propylaea in section (the entrance was to the left, the place interior to the right, the re-constructed fragment was the west side of a symmetrical composition); Was principal city of Crete throughout Antiquity; flourished ca. 2000-1400 BCE; was seat of legendary king Minos and labyrinth of Daedalus; best known for ruins of the great Minoan palace and Neolithic deposits.
