Ionic Stoa, tight view down the Stoa stairs, looking north (built in 50 CE by Tiberius Claudius Sophanes it originally had 35 Ionic columns with 19 shops at the rear); Located near the mouth of the Menderes; was one of 12 Ionian cities & one of the greatest cities of ancient Asia Minor; was large trade center with 4 harbors; founded colonies on Black Sea, in Egypt & Italy; noted as a literary center.
