Etruscan Perugia Archway; close view of the base of the arch; As Perusia it became one of 12 cities of the Etruscan league and was the last to be engulfed by the expansion of Roman influence. Monuments to the cultural splendour of the 4th-2nd centuries BCE include the well-preserved Etruscan city walls and gates, notably the Etruscan Arch ('Arch of Augustus'); with Roman and Renaissance additions.
