Description
Vertical view, from southeast across Park Avenue, with McKim, Mead and White's Racquet Club at left, depicting contrast; Lever House was built in 1951-1952 to be the American headquarters of the British soap company Lever Brothers. The building featured a glimmering 24-story blue-green heat-resistant glass and stainless steel curtain-wall. The curtain-wall was designed to reduce the cost of operating and maintaining the property. Its curtain-wall is completely sealed with no operating windows. It is the quintessential and seminal glass box International Style skyscraper, and holds the distinction of being the first curtain-wall in New York City. The building features an innovative courtyard and public space. Source: Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page (accessed 12/2/2007)
