dc.description | View of the south entry; The building is known as Black Rock for the dark granite cladding. Unlike some major skyscrapers built in that section of midtown Manhattan during the 1950s and 60s, the pillars are more dominant than the glass windows between them. "At his death Saarinen had ten major projects in various stages of construction, documentation, or design development. He did not live to see final completion and occupancy of these major works, and as his will explicitly dictated that no project would bear his name that he himself had not worked on directly, his partners completed the remaining projects as Eero Saarinen and Associates but reformed their partnership in 1966 as Kevin Roche, John Dinkeloo and Associates."
