Description
View of sunken terrace, south end of building; Perlstein Hall is the largest building in the Mies Campus Academic Core. It houses many of the university's administrative offices, including the undergraduate admission office, the president's office, and Institutional Advancement; it also houses laboratories and classrooms for Chemical and Environmental Engineering. The landscaping of the walkway west of Perlstein Hall is executed in the manner Mies envisioned for the entire campus. The native trees were selected and placed by Alfred Caldwell, a student and colleague of Mies who landscaped much of IIT's campus. Perlstein's small interior courtyard makes it unique among campus buildings. Source: The Mies van der Rohe Society (IIT) [website]; http://www.mies.iit.edu/ (accessed 12/2/2007)
