Detail where structure meets ground, southwest corner of post office structure, from southwest; The complex consists of a 1-story post office and two skyscrapers (the Dirksen Federal Building and the Kluczynski Federal Building) designed by Mies van der Rohe; another skyscraper designed by his successor firm; and a detention center to the south by Harry Weese. Built around a large open plaza with Alexander Calder's red Flamingo stabile. The central block replaces the old Chicago Federal Building.
