dc.description | The dome and lantern; The church was begun to designs by Raphael. The vaults and domes were reconstructed ca. 1600. It is a superb example of Renaissance architecture in Rome, one of only a handful. "Raphael also designed a small Roman church of the goldsmiths, S Eligio degli Orefici (ca. 1515). ....and his work for S Eligio was largely obliterated by subsequent modifications."
