dc.description | View of the west entry; The Indian Institute (now the home of the History Faculty Library and the James Martin 21st Century School of the University of Oxford) was designed by Basil Champneys. The first two bays were opened in 1884 and twelve years later in 1896, the three bays on the right were added on by Parnell and opened by Lord George Hamilton, Secretary of State for India. The bay windows originally had ornamentation at the top. It was described as "in the style of the English Renaissance, with oriental details".
