Page with five illustrations. The four allegorical scenes on the left depict "stages" of civilization. From top to bottom: people hunting and in front of a tipi; men sitting by a cave while others look on by a large hut and row past in a boat; men praying in front of a temple while elephants process through a city square; men looking at building plans next to a printing press while a train runs behind them, a balloon flies in the air, steam ships sail on the river, etc. The image on the right shows the Sphinx, an obelisk, the pyramids, and the Colosseum as the background for an Arabian and Western European armory.
