dc.description | Detail, lower part of the upper tier; The Romanesque cloister of Santo Domingo de Silos, Silos, Spain has extensive limestone sculpture. The six original reliefs of the imposts bear scenes from the Deposition to Pentecost. Figures stand cross-legged in rhythmic compositions of great elegance; their square faces are dominated by large eyes and thick, wavy locks of hair, and drapery folds are decorated with double ridges or beading. The stylistic origins and date of this sculpture are controversial, some scholars advocating the late 11th century, others the 12th (ca. 1090-1130).
