Overall view, showing the front side; A naked youth celebrates victory in athletic competition by binding his head with a victor's ribbon. This marble Roman statue of around AD 50, copies a lost original Greek sculpture, which would have dated to around 440 BC. The style of this copy is typical of works attributed to the Greek sculptor Polykleitos. He is famous for his sculpture in bronze, including the so-called kanon. This lost masterpiece sought to demonstrate Polykleitos' theories of perfect proportions and balance in the male nude. Found in the Roman theatre at Vaison, France.
